Supervising four project managers

“My position did not exist at first,” Ramses says. “Rompa is quite a flat organisation. The project managers were given a ton of freedom. Although that is a good thing, there was room for improvement in terms of structure”. Today, he supervises a team of four project managers. “Together with our colleagues in the Czech Republic and China, we work to further improve our organisational structure and optimise our operational processes between Rompa NL, CZ and CN. The goal is to share our knowledge, so our internal organisation can function even more efficiently . Good communication is an essential aspect of that, although the distance between us and the different languages of the systems we work with sometimes complicate matters.”

Taking stock

What improvements would Ramses like to make? “We will improve the existing responsibility matrix, so everyone in all countries will instantly know who is responsible for what. Furthermore, I will make it easier to share important information, e.g. about planning or technical product specifications, via our new IT-platform. I look forward to Rompa NL, CZ and CN working together even more closely as a single team. That is why I have visited our people in the Czech Republic several times already and a visit to China is also planned. I would like to talk with all our colleagues over there at some point. I prefer to take stock of a situation before I dive in. Before implementing anything, you should first look around and listen to the issues people encounter. I was given a warm welcome by my colleagues in both the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. It is great to see that everyone is open to change and willing to work together to further improve our organisation.”

The right people

Another point of attention is finding and/or training new employees. “The unemployment rate is quite low in the Czech Republic, so there are few jobseekers,” Ramses explains. “I like to think in solutions, however. How can we operate more efficiently with our current employees and further improve the quality and service we offer our customers?” A new colleague has already been hired to supervise the process technologists in the Czech Republic and take their work to the next level. “That makes things easier for our project managers in the Netherlands when setting up new projects. They have a single point of contact at Rompa CZ with whom to communicate. In China, our international product development & engineering manager Fred Wiekens works closely with me on a regular basis. With all our investments in people, Rompa Group is working on an even stronger global (electronical) engineering team to make sure we exceed our customers’ expectations with our innovative solutions.”

Sportive colleagues

It is clear that Ramses is brimming with ambition and ideas on how to improve Rompa. That energy also comes out in different ways. “Football is my major passion. I have a season ticket to PSV, where I used to play myself. These days, I play with the Wilhelminaboys every week. It is great that my colleagues at Rompa’s head office are so sportive as well. For example, a lot of us recently took part in the CZ Tilburg Ten Miles.”
