New year, new chances: building a greater Rompa

Our annual look into the past and the future with our CEO Patrick Gerard is becoming a true New Year’s tradition. How does he look back on 2018 and what are his plans for 2019?

We meet up with Patrick just after he returns from a trip to Germany, where he celebrated the beginning of the next construction phase for our new production site together with construction company TRAUB and the mayor of Leipheim. “That was one of the highlights of 2018, if you ask me. The construction process is going exactly according to plan. We also got to experience the German Gründlichkeit for ourselves. The quality of the project meets the strict European requirements and we are even ahead of schedule! I have complete faith that we will be able to manufacture our first batch of products on German soil in the first quarter of 2019.”

Were there any other highlights?

“Absolutely. During the first six months of the year, we realised a major revenue growth rate of more than 25% in Europe. That was possible because our multinational customers released a lot of new products on the market in the past three years. As a result, they saw unprecedented sales figures during the first half of 2018, so they had to purchase more. This also posed a challenge for us, because there are major shortages on the employment market in Eastern Europe. Our first priority was to find and train the right people. We also invested a lot in automation and the implementation of a culture of continuous improvement, inspired by the lean methodology. This allowed us to meet our customers’ demands and safeguard the quality of our products. Rompa Group has also managed to further expand its customer portfolio and broaden and improve our competences.”
